Week 8: Discussion#6

Q1What is atheism? Based on the testimony of Kevin, a former atheist, why is atheism a destructive thing?

Generally, atheism is the lack of belief in gods and deities. In a narrower sense, it is the rejection of the belief of the existence of any deities. In another narrower sense, it is the disbelief of gods or deities.

Based from Kevin, atheism made him feel free, powerful, and in control. With this, atheism may have caused him to pursue pleasure, power, and possession in his attempt to fill his emptiness but, he have always kept wanting for more and was never satisfied. This then led to depression slowly creeping in that made him became miserable. He then resolved to commit suicide when he reached 40 if he did not find the answer because he did not want to grow old and miserable.

Although, atheism is not always a destructive thing. His situation was affected by a lot of factors such as his environment and lifestyle.

Q2: Apple had a wonderful work/business and career. Then, she contracted HIV. Her life, all of a sudden, was devastated. What made her to turn her life around and restore her wonderful life?

Also, did her perspective/outlook in life change? How and why?

In the darkest hour of her life, she asked Jesus to save her and forgive her from her sins. She prayed to Him to restore her life because she could not do it on her own and He did. Also, she learned how to trust and wait in Him expectantly. With this, her perspective in life had changed. After being almost completely cured, she then committed to purity. Also, she was amazed how God enabled her to live as if she was not sick at all. She also stated that she now stands full of hope and courage after she met Him. She also learned that there is heaven here in earth even as she live with HIV.

Q3: Why is it important to know the truth about God? How does this impact our lives and our spiritual aspect?

God sacrificed Himself for us. He died to save us from our sins. He clearly just wants the best for us if only we were open and willing to accept his grace. No matter how dark or horrid our past is, he will still accept it and cleanse it for us if we let him to. He is there to guide us as we live on this world, save us from our sins, bless us with his grace, and then let us live eternally with him if we just accept Him and His virtues.
