Week 6: Reflection#3
REFLECTION QUESTIONS:
1. Give at least 5 VALUES that Norman learned from his family (particularly
from his mother) or experiences and explain each using your own words and
understanding.
Acceptance is one value that
he learned since he accepted who he really was. Respect and
obedience was also shown as he followed her mother's advice, knowing that
she would never put him in harm. Tolerance was also shown
since as he went through all of the demeaning eyes and other judgement. He
showed great perseverance for finally graduating in that premiere
university. Lastly, he showed great pride as he wore his attire in
his graduation .
2. In the video, what gave you the greatest impact or
touched you the most? Why?
The
moment that touched me the most is when his fellow graduates were amazed by
him. Graduating from that university must have been rewarding. However, it must
have been also settling and rewarding for him to be seen as positively unique
and one of a kind rather than someone who is just different and excluded.
Instead of looking at him with judging eyes, they thought of him as "cool
and authentic", and he is. Although, I think he would probably be fine and
accepted in that environment since the campus has an open mind for this matter.
3. Give your reaction, insights, lessons, etc. after
watching the video.
It is
not that hard to look and treat someone with respect despite the differences. I
do not get why others feel discomfort when they see or are near around them. I
also do not get why other people who are more economically stable make the lives
of those who are less fortunate even harder. Pity will definitely be more understandable,
but respect will be even better. We do not get to choose how our lives will
start, nor our fortune, sex, and race. Therefore, we should just accept how it
is, respect how it is for others, improve those aspects that can be improved,
and try to help others in improving themselves if you are able to.
4. From which university did Norman King graduate? (1
answer/sentence only).
Judging from the attire and the
setting in the video, he graduated from the University of the Philippines -
Manila.
